Counselor Genetic I, II, or III Precision Medicine

Job DescriptionThis position is responsible for providing genetic counseling for a variety of indications, tailored to the needs of the department and the interest of the candidate.
This includes prenatal, preconception, hereditary cancer and hereditary cardiac conditions with the potential for growth into additional areas of precision medicine such as pharmacogenomics and laboratory stewardship.
All counseling and genetic programs will be in accord with the mission of St.
Elizabeth Healthcare as sponsored by the Bishop of the Covington Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church.
This serves as an entry level position for new MS-degreed individuals or those seeking to participate in direct patient care activity only.
Candidate must demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with all patients, families, visitors and other employees regardless of cultural background.
QualificationsEducation, Credentials, Licenses:
Master's degree in Genetic Counseling from an accredited institution.
Board Certified or Board Eligible (American Board of Genetic Counseling).
Must hold or be in the process of obtaining a full or temporary license to practice Genetic Counseling in the state where work is being performed.
Temporary license may not have a lapse of greater than 60 days during re-application process in event of failed exam Specialized Knowledge:
Comprehensive knowledge of both clinical and molecular genetics and genomics.
Excellent communication skills and ability to elicit medical, family, social, and psychosocial histories.
Critical thinking skills to necessary to perform risk assessment and psychosocial assessment.
Ability to apply counseling methods to help families cope, understand, and manage outcomes of genetic testing and facilitate decision-making.
Familiarity with Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services Kind and Length of
Experience:
Completion of Master's degree in Genetics Counseling with exposure to perinatal, hereditary cancer, and/or cardiac risk assessment.
Recommended Skills Clinical Works Communication Critical Thinking Decision Making Ethics Friendliness Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
