PE Sr. Specialist

I.
General
Summary:
Utilize the Toyota Production System and engineering skills to perform Production Engineering functions setup for welding production processes within Tier 1 automotive manufacturing plants.
Establish engineering best practices to develop low cost, flexible production processes to meet Just in Time (JIT) delivery to customers.
Plan, source, manage, and install new in-house welding projects on time and on budget.
This includes tooling, equipment, and training related to new programs.
II.
Essential Job Functions:
A.
Investigate capacity, make vs.
buy, and process plans and costs.
B.
Develop and implement process and production preparation plans for new automotive welding tools, equipment, and products.
1.
Provide support and assistance to technical center and other departments with research and development activities.
2.
Conducts research to develop and test new processes and procedures.
3.
Develop new or modify current methods, techniques, and procedures.
4.
Establish assembly instructions/visual aids to guide production team relating to specifications and processes.
5.
Develop Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) and work standards that promote quality and lean manufacturing.
6.
Evaluate new developments in the automation field for possible application to current problems or production processes.
7.
Assist in development and maintenance of work instructions in compliance with TS16949 requirements.
8.
Set up welding processes, train manufacturing staff, and hand over completed processes, equipment, and tooling to manufacturing teams.
9.
Coordinate technical personnel in performing inspections to ensure worker's compliance with established procedures, restrictions, and standards.
10.
Supports PE and program Obeya/plant meetings (e.
g.
, design reviews, project status reports, KPI reports, handover, etc.
).
11.
Communicate project status to other departments and manufacturing plants.
12.
Support plant manufacturing and engineering staff during new program launches.
C.
Manage tool and equipment sourcing.
1.
Lead supplier selection process including developing project quotations, Requests for Quotation (RFQ), Scope of Requirements (SOR), and negotiating final costs for capital, tooling, and utility investment.
2.
Select suppliers for tooling, check fixtures, and equipment as related to welding.
3.
Create, submit, and manage Ringis, Purchase Requisitions(PR), Purchase Orders (PO), Capacity Plan, and Process Plan for tools and equipment.
4.
Manage suppliers in the design, construction, and installation of new tools and equipment.
5.
Verify tooling, part quality, and machine capability through design and functional reviews to ensure validation and compliance to design specifications, safety, quality, durability, and process plan operation parameters.
6.
Coordinate and oversee the installation of equipment to the manufacturing layout plan.
7.
Coordinate and oversee the installation of associated facility and equipment utilities (e.
g.
, process water, electrical, compressed air, and welding gas).
8.
Coordinate, conduct , and oversee the tooling and/or equipment start-up, debug, and tuning to meet desired quality and manufacturing objectives.
D.
Improve existing or develop new equipment and tooling including managing Engineering Change Instructions (ECI).
1.
Perform experimental assembly to evaluate new equipment, techniques, and materials.
2.
Actively contribute to the machine design from the manufacturing engineer's perspective and liaise with other engineers in the team during the design and manufacturing process to ensure that the manufacturing process requirements are adhered to.
3.
Assist with writing equipment specifications for new or modified equipment and/or obtaining agreement on specifications of equipment from plants and other departments.
4.
Manage all ECIs for tooling and equipment including supporting equipment and tooling work.
E.
Prepares technical reports as a result of research, development, and preventative maintenance investigations.
F.
Initiate action to prevent the occurrence/reoccurrence of any nonconformities relating to product, process, and quality system.
1.
Conduct root cause analysis and problem solving methods.
2.
Interface with internal/external customers and lead team members in problem solving with regard to production, customer, and supplier concerns.
G.
Create and manage project budgets and schedules including quoting investment cost.
H.
Create, manage, and/or update Engineering Quick Change (EQC) documents, plant layouts, Process PFMEA documents, Requests for Quotation (RFQ), ECI quotations, open issues documents, and Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reports.
III.
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial/Welding Technology, or related field required.
Experience:
Greater than six (6) years of relevant experience and academic preparation required.
Prefer manufacturing experience in automotive interior components (e.
g.
, injection, assembly, seating, trim, tooling, welding, and other miscellaneous components), managing projects from design to production.
Welding experience preferred.
Equipment procurement experience preferred.
Personal/Technical Skills:
General understanding and working knowledge of manufacturing, assembly, and welding equipment and tooling including design, automation, robotics, or manufacturing processes (and all secondary related processes) relating to automotive interiors.
Basic understanding and working knowledge of the industrial equipment and manufacturing processes relating to welding including fastening, riveting, MIG and spot welding, and assembly.
Working knowledge of robot programming for welding equipment.
Basic working knowledge of cost structures is preferred.
Basic working knowledge of PFMEA development is preferred.
Ability to order and track equipment and material for the manufacturing facilities.
Ability to read component, assembly and equipment drawings and have an understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
Practical experience applying Toyota Production System (TPS) principles in an automotive environment.

Solid working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office software and other computer-based applications (e.

, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Project, Outlook, Internet, etc.
).
Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, AutoCAD, and 3D Modeling software.
CATIA experience is preferred.
IV.
Work Environment/Conditions:
Office:
Open Office Environment, moderate noise level while performing manufacturing automotive production engineering operations.
Plant:
Standard automotive plant environment with moderate noise level.
PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) such as safety glasses, steel toe shoes, hearing protection, etc.
may be required in engineering, manufacturing, or industrial areas.
Personal attire standards may apply.
Travel:
Must be willing to travel up to 30% of the time to our vendors and plants (Mississippi, Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky, Canada, Argentina, Brazil, and Japan).
V.
Physical Demands:
Ability to sit and work on a computer for extensive periods of time is required.
While performing the duties of this job, the team member is required to talk, see, and hear.
Performance requires physical ability to inspect, adjust, and operate equipment.
The team member must be capable of walking, sitting, and standing for extended periods of time throughout plant.
Occasionally climbing, stooping, or bending on, under, or near tooling and equipment.
May be occasionally required to reach, grasp, and manipulate parts, materials, or equipment.
May be occasionally required to lift up to 30-50 pounds (with or without assistance).
